Dark Cabin Production: From Horror Dreams to Indie Journey

Introduction:

Welcome to Dark Cabin Production! Founded by Angel and Daniela Rosario in 2023, our horror film company began with a shared passion for storytelling. Our debut project, Cabin Break, marks the start of our journey. We’ve faced challenges and celebrated successes. Here’s how we built our team and what’s next.

The Birth of Dark Cabin Production

How It All Started

On May 1, 2023, Angel and Daniela completed the script for Cabin Break. This milestone led to the founding of Dark Cabin Production on June 26, 2023. Angel’s fascination with horror began with the 1986 movie Trick or Treat, starring Tony Fields. This film, blending horror and rock ‘n roll, inspired Angel and influenced our company’s direction.

Thanks to Daniela’s support, we decided to launch our own production company. Our aim is to create unique and chilling horror films.

Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Successes

Early Challenges

Starting out, we encountered significant challenges. For instance, funding was a major issue. Building a production company, hiring the right people, and financing projects proved difficult. Furthermore, choosing the right collaborators led to some early setbacks.

Finding Early Success

Despite these obstacles, we found success with a short film and proof of concept for Cabin Break. This success helped solidify our vision. Additionally, it allowed us to build a dedicated team, including cinematographer  Adam Weinberg. His expertise greatly improved our production.

Building the Right Team

Forming Our Core Team

In our first year, we focused on building a talented team. One key partnership was with Rick Dumont, founder of Sweaty Turtle Entertainment and host of the Dumonted Pod. After meeting Rick at a showcase, he became a crucial part of our team. Rick starred in the Cabin Break proof of concept and co-produced the project, contributing to our company’s growth.

Creative Vision: What Sets Us Apart

A Unique Approach to Horror

At Dark Cabin Production, we believe fear comes from within the human mind. Our films explore the dark corners of human psychology, not just jump scares or supernatural threats. Consequently, we aim to be innovative and thought-provoking. We want audiences to confront their own fears.

Additionally, we prioritize creative freedom and cost-effective methods. By forming strategic partnerships for distribution and marketing, we deliver high-quality films on a budget.

Memorable Moments on Set

Unexpected Obstacles

One memorable moment occurred during the production of Cabin Break. We discovered someone had pretended to be a sound operator. Without proper equipment, it seemed the shoot might be ruined. Fortunately, one actor had a DJI Lavalier Mic, which allowed us to continue. This challenge demonstrated our team’s resilience and adaptability.

The Future of Dark Cabin Production

Our Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, we want Dark Cabin Production to become a leading name in indie horror. We aim to revolutionize low-budget filmmaking by creating high-quality, captivating horror films. After completing Cabin Break, we have several exciting projects lined up. We look forward to sharing more stories with our audience.
